To promote your services activity, you need have a web presence in one form or the other.
At commencement of a business activity, where a large amount of time and money is required for setting up the actual infrastructure of the business, one would be averse to spending huge dollops of money in creating “professional” customised websites, since the real benefits of a website become visible ONLY when and if the website gets good exposure to the audience that you intend to reach.
To overcome these limitations, I propose a strategy as follows:
1. Initially, to save costs, and while the entire marketing concept is in flux, it is best to create a website using a free url and free server space. This could always be ported to a purchased url, and hired webspace once the business process is clear while, at the same time, retaining the free website.
2. The initial web content would be brief in nature, but should be expandable, as and when fresh content is available, with an easy back-end.
3. All available free tools to promote the website shall be used.
To enable the above, we propose the following:
1. Use a free blog server, such as Blogger, or WordPress.
2. Use free pictorial uploading servers such as Flickr.
3. Create free email IDs and profile pages in gmail and Yahoo. this would enable chat software, such as Yahoo Messenger, Gtalk, etc.
4. Use promotional tools, such as Bloglines, Technorati, Deli.ic.ious and listings in free listings of Yahoo, Rediff, etc. to enable maximum exposure of the content possible to the public.
